They are people who care about the welfare of others and generously invest with a contribution of $1,000 or more annually to help support others. ALEXIS DE TOCQUEVILLE SOCIETY

In 1972, United Way of America founded Alexis Tocqueville Society with the purpose to acknowledge the prominent volunteers, encourage donations at a higher level and develop new recourses to strengthen the community. In 1997, for the first time in the history of United Way Puerto Rico, four leaders of the puertorican community got together to established in our island a chapter of the distinguished society. The founding partners were: Churchill G. Carey, Jose Enrique Fernandez, Zoila Levis and Alfred Ramirez de Arellano.

The chapter of Puerto Rico counts with philanthropists that to belong to Alexis Tocqueville Society, they contribute with a minimum donation of $10,000 in personal quality to United Way Puerto Rico. In the United States, to belong in this philanthropist’s society like Bill Gates, president and cofounder of the Microsoft Corporation, Emilio & Gloria Estefan and Jenny & Sid Craig, founders of Jenny Craig Weight Loss Center; each one of them contribute $1,000,000 to United Way of America.
